Not everybody can afford proper gallery space for their art. Here are two itinerant local art hawkers operating on Fitzroy St. Art, like eating used to be in Melbourne, is seen mainly as an indoor activity. Councils do not seem to permit the Paris style street art markets yet. In the meantime a small number of artists are forced to operate on the streets in this way. See more of their work here

Composition Francaise
After four years in Melbourne, Gerard Boursin offers unique connections with the city through his photographs of surfaces which he says may have become nearly invisible to Melbourne residents - corrugated iron for example. He's at the Alliance Francaise Gallery in St Kilda.

No 1 Fitzroy St, St Kilda
Fitzroy St is one of the main streets of St Kilda, running from the beach inland to the southern end of Albert Park. It's full of cafes, live music venues and bars, including The George and the Prince of Wales, Termini, Mikoshi, Barcelona, Cacao, the SGB and many others. On summer evenings at the weekend it fills up as people come to eat in the street.

Gardening in St Kilda
Gardening is not available to most apartment dwellers in St Kilda except here, near Luna Park, where people can have a small allotment. The many small gardens, like the one above, have become visual expressions of their owners. Nice to walk around when it's open.
